There’s Nothing To Do Here!
“I’m Bored!”
For all the parents reading this article, you have undoubtedly, at some point, heard the following statement from your children: “I’m bored! There’s nothing to do!” I usually thank my kids for their input and promptly give them chores to help cure their boredom. It has been remarkably effective!
Is Lynchburg Exciting Like Other Areas?
But what happens when the statement comes from us as adults? Lynchburg, for all it’s wonderful qualities, can lack at times in terms of available interesting activities. There are some great hikes, a budding theater program at LU, athletic events, etc. But compared to more urban areas, let’s face it, Lynchburg can be a little slow!
Get Creative!
Here is my advice to myself and all of us: instead of complaining, get creative! Instead of pining over our lack of interesting restaurants, splurge on ingredients and try a new recipe. Instead of focusing on the lack of interesting activities, host a game night with friends and laugh until you cry! Instead of wishing for more musical performances, learn to play an instrument.
Focus on Gratitude
There is always, no matter what we have, the tendency for us as humans to want whatever it is that we do not have. The irony is, it’s a void that can never be filled! As soon as you have what you want, you want whatever it is you don’t have! So instead of focusing on what you don’t have in the place you live, look around and be creative with what’s already around you!
