Humble Spaces

“Better Homes & Gardens”

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, in 1965 the median home price in the US was $20,200. In 2024, the median home price in the US soared to $420,400, an increase of 1,981%! Over the years Americans have become increasingly aware of the spaces in which we live. After all, we’re constantly told we need “Better” Homes & Gardens!

Beautiful Spaces

As a Realtor, I have had the joy of seeing many of the “Spaces” in our area. You all have invited me into your beautiful homes, or allowed me to tour you through properties you’re considering purchasing. But think about some of the humble spaces where historical figures had their beginnings.

Humble Beginnings

Abraham Lincoln’s space growing up was a one room 288 sq. foot cabin with a dirt floor. Famous industrialist Andrew Carnegie was born in a small, humble cottage that had one room that served as living room, dining room, and bedroom.

The Greatest Gift

But perhaps the most famous humble space that represents the greatest paradox in human history is the birthplace of Jesus Christ, who we celebrate at Christmas: the greatest gift the world has ever received who left his space in heaven to be born in a stable and placed in an animal feedbox. He came in humility, and he came for us, as is recorded in the Gospel according to John: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Merry Christmas

I hope you enjoy the spaces you are in this Christmas season, and that they are filled with love, family, good food, and laughter. But don’t forget to make space in your mind and heart for the one who, in love, came for you!
